99dolar music video is a site that showcases a variety of music videos from independent bands that are trying to get somewhere in the music industry without any help, and they are on a strict budget of 99$. Which includes the equipment, lyrics, cast, music and everything else that they will need to create a music video of their choice.
On the 99dolarmusic video site there are a wide range of different music videos that independent artists have created, most of the videos on the sites are quite similar genres, 'rock, vintage, pop' these type of genres have been made a lot by independent artists because it's a easy/simple way of getting ideas to make the video because all you'll need is the instruments and maybe a few cast and a stage, whereas if you wanted to create a more RnB/hip hop music video, you would have to spend much more than 99$ which is what you definitely can not do. This is because in most RnB/hip hop music videos there's imagery that is used to grab the audience attention which can cost an awful amount of money, for example 'Chamillionaire released a single 'ridin dirty' and in the music video there is a lot of expensive equipment and imagery that has been used to get the video looking professional and stylish
In the music video there are expensive cars used (0.31), police cars (0.19), quite a few cast have been used to play different roles, the lighting and the set. In the whole video there is something used in each cut that has to have cost much more than 99 dollars for it to look and become professional.
With 99dolar music videos able to be viewed publicly, that encourages anyone to want to create their own music video, whether it's for a project or just for fun. The site gives the audience a basic understanding of what people do and upload for the worlds eyes to see and comment.
Most people struggle with creating their own lyrics for the music video that they want to make, but 99dolar music video allows you to view other videos that have been made and also allows you to get in contact with the artist that you may like to use their ideas for your music video so that it gives you a head start especially for beginners.
On the site, there is a brief description of who 99dolarmusic video are, and there's also a page of the different music videos that have been created through this company. Each video is different but all had to stick within the budget to create the music video of their choice.
I do not think that it is possible to create a professional quality music video for 99$ because there is so many things required to create a professional video: . Equipment- studio, instruments, camera's . Cast- singers, make up artist, clothe designer . Set- where the filming will be taken place . Famous artists All these points are exactly what you will need to create a professional music video or to even get your video to the top where all the other main artist's are, with this because it is an independent band, and its 99$ that you can spend, you won't be able to get all the main things that are needed. In most professional music videos today, there are at least one famous person in the video which does not include the vocalist, this is to get the music known because of who took part in the video, whether they had a small piece to play or the main role.

In the music/media industry there's many different ways of presenting the theme. Most music artist have their own type of way of creating a music video to grabbed the audience attention. Performance music video is the artist actually recording their performance of the music video. Some artist choose to show steps of the music video being recorded or have the background as the music set to add more of an effect to the audience to make them feel that they were there/they're apart of it. (beyonce- love on top)
The music video 'Love on top' first started being set in the dance studio where they practise the choreography for the music video that they are preparing for but that's what we think when we look at it, whereas that's the way Beyonce had created it to be like that for a reason.
Later in the video (1.44) the set moves into the performance stage where Beyonce to us is properly performing the piece to the audience but that isn't how she styled it to be, instead that's just her still performing the piece but going at it with more enthusiasm.
Concert music video is actual live concert that the artist performed which they have used for their music video, most artist do this to show the audience the concert and because it's much cheaper that way because they're not having to pay out more money to create/film a music video for the song that they have released. Some artist also choose to do it this way because it gets the audience involved especially if they happened to be at that same concert, then they would want to see if they can spot them self in the video.
As-live is a music video where the artist is performing to an audience in the video, whether that be on stage or face to face. Artist choose this style of video to show the audience that they are singing the song to everyone, getting everyone involved so they feel apart of the song/music.
(k ci and jojo- all my life)
In this video the artist is singing this song for a special woman that he likes(1.35), but he also performing the song to the audience that are in the video.
This makes the audience feel and understand the song more because its like the artist is showing them what the song is about/what it means to them because the woman of his dreams is there in crowd with everyone to see.
Narrative is a style of music where the video is telling a story while the artist is singing the lyrics. Most artist choose to do this type of style with them not being in the video at all or they'll only be the extra, but the song will normally focus on one person and tell a story about them. An artist chooses do this to grab the audience attention especially if the story is creative, because it make you want to know what's going to happen and if it's a sad song then it makes you think about it. With narrative music videos its also memorable because when you hear that song again you will immediately think about the video/story and that's what the artist wants you to do.
TOK- footprints, is an excamplke of a narrative music video, in this video it's about these different type of family going through struggles in their life and how they have to deal with it because they can't turn back time. The main artist is singing while the cast in the music video are acting out the parts that they are describing.
Interpretative is a video that the story matches the lyrics exactly. For example there's a song about someone left, then in the video there could be a person leaving someone behind. The artist may choose this style so then the audience can easily follow along the video, because it wouldn't confuse them because what is being said is what the person is doing.
In this music video 'same girl' by usher and r kelly, is an example of an interpretatiuve music video. The lyrics does slightly match the video, at 1.01-.04 r kelly describes the height of the woman like he likes, and the camera shows the woman in a long shot, so you can see her height.
Impressionist is imagery that matches the mood of the song but not always the lyrics. An artist may choose do use this style to get the audience to feel the music/beat, to ejoy just the music and not focus to much on the lyrics itself.
The world's greatest by r kelly is an example of an impressionist music video. In the music video r kelly is singing about stadning up and telling who you are. But the imagery in the music video doesn't exactly match up with the lyrics, the title of the song is world's greatest and the imagery is of a boxing ring and the crowd cheering which gives a feeling of power, relief and strong minds to the audience.
Surrealism/abstract is a music video that has surprises, strange elements. The video could be a someone having a dream and your taken into the dream as well so each clip would be something different. Some artist choose this style because it's different, it makes them stand out from everyone else because their not following which is what you would expect them to do, so in a way they're also surprising you as well as their music video.
Bad romance by Lady Gaga is an example of an surreal/abstract music video. Lady Gaga always puts creativity into her music and in this video there's parts that are surreal, the way that the people look are distraught. 1.16-1.18 Lady Gaga eyes are huge and that's to make herself look differentr and stand out more, 2.41 her body is squeezed in tight and her spine is sticking out and that also can be seen to the audience as distraught.
Animation a music video that is computerised that can make the video look strange and confusing because you wonder how they do it. Most artist choose this style of video because it's a different style to what you would normally see in a music video, its also a way of getting the audience to remember your video because it was different.
(michael jackson- leave me alone)video
In this music video its an animation of a theme park ride that goes through different levels
This music video is very creative and imaginative that you wouldn't expect something like this to be done. Having a video created like this makes it memerable because its weird and fun at the same time.
Intertextuality is a video that refers to another type of media. For example a cartoon show may have clip that is exactly the same as what is in a particular film. It gets the audience understanding different media texts.
Parody is a music video that has been created again by someone different (not the artist) and they mock the video as well as they can and they do things very dramatically and just make it look fun, this gets the audience to laugh and find the video/song a joke. It's quite creative for someone to do this because people may think that a certain song is pathetic a complete joke, but instead someone has actually gone out their way to create a parody video.
In this music video there's a group of guys joking around with the song 'the motto' by 'Drake'. The video has been made to make the public laugh and see the enjoyable side of the song that they may so love. They have created it as similar as the original music video as possible.
In most music videos there are cuts, special effects, cutting to the beat, lip syncing, green screen. Most music artists will use one or even all of these techniques in their music videos.
Special effect are very creative in a music video because it attracts the public and makes the video more exciting and sticks into your head.
The music video 'Earthquake'- by Labrinth has loads of special effects that makes you attracted to the song as well as the actual video and it also makes you think how did they do that because it looks so creative/imaginative.
In this music video the song starts off with special effects at 0.10 which lasts for a few seconds but already I think has an impact on the video itself which is also an advantage because it makes the audience/viewer more intrigue to want to carry on watching the video to see what more is going to happen throughout the music video.
At 0.20 in this shot the camera is focused on Labrinth and the car that he came out from and then it transfers into a variety of speakers spelling out the artist name. This type of special effects has been created so well that its so imaginative and creative to think of something like is to make the viewers wowed and impressed.
Throughout the music video every time the shot cuts the beat, the special effects of the speakers changes its position with a gust of power of the bass from the speakers to the screen which I think makes the video more effective.
The start of 2.20 to 3.00 has the most effected special effects I think, because there's a hologram in the middle of where 'labrinth' is starting and then seconds later he moulds into the effect and becomes part of the equipment which is such a creative thing to do that it starts to look almost impossible. I definitely think that this technique was very successful because its creative and looks complex which is what you want because it makes the viewers want to see more of the artist work.
This music video especially with the special effects definitely represents the artist, because Labrinth is a creative, loud, bubbly, and enthusiastic with music and it does show in this music video of how he can work in an imaginative way.
Unfortunately the bad thing about Labrinth using all these different special effects is maybe a bit too much for a music video, if he had used a few seconds worth of special effects in the video then that would've been perfectly fine on the audience eye but instead the whole music video had special effects involved which I think slightly ruined the music video.
Special effects and Green screen:
With this music video 'Blue- da ba dee' the special effects aren't as effective as 'earthquake-labrinth'. Blue da ba dee was released in 1999 and technology then isn't as good as the technology we have now. The video looks fuzzy and unfocused which also doesn't bring out/ stand out the special effects that have been created for the music video.
At the beginning of the music video there's special effects used 0.02 of different televisions moving in the atmosphere and the artist in the screen talking to the audience, I think that this special effects has been used quite well especially for this type of music video which is all about space, craziness, aliens etc.
0.30 special effects and green screen has been used where the group is on set with their equipment telling the story, then the special effects takes in and shows the viewers the aliens taking the vocalist. I think that this type of special effects has worked well especially with the green screen because they are trying to make it look realistic of space interacting with earth. But I do think that this is also a bad technique that they have used mainly with the special effects, I think that they should have kept that shot as green screen only.
2.04 is where they used green screen again for this shot but again it wasn't a good technique that they decided to use because it looks very unrealistic, now you can tell that its been done on green screen because it doesn't look real or even effective enough for us to think otherwise.
Cutting to the beat- maintains the link between the tempo and visuals of the lyrics. It's where the beat of the music is repeated over and over again so there's a cut at least every 4 seconds usually.
Nicki Minaj recently released a single called' Starships' which is a creative video that has quite a lot of effects used. In this video you can tell by the music that there's cutting to the beat because the beat every 2 seconds is the same beat for the entire song. If you play it from the beginning and tap your hand every 2 seconds you will be able to understand and hear the repeat.
1.04 the shot is of Nicki Minaj and then at 1.06 the shot changes to girls walking down the catwalk and then at 1.08 the shot changes again back to Nicki Minaj but in a different scene. I think that they have used this technique very well because the viewers don't want to see the same shot for a long time because they will start to lose interest in the music video which is something that the artist and company does not want to happen. So because the shot cut to the beat every 2 seconds that means the shot changes to either the artists, scenery or other people involved.
But at the same time I think that this technique is also a bad thing especially with how the cut to the beat with 2 seconds is way too quick for the viewers to focus on what they are being shown, because by the time they see the shot, it then changes to another shot.
With this type of technique for this particular music video it does represent Nicki Minaj as a creative artist because in every shot she is doing something different or something in the shot has changed, which some artist find difficult to do because they don't have enough props or equipment to use.
Varied camera language- using a variety of camera language is a good thing because you change up the position of the video which makes it more enjoyable to watch, if the camera is just in one place all the time then it will make the video seem dull and plain because there isn't any techniques used.
'Simply amazing'- by Trey songz, the music video has many different camera language used at 0.20 the shot is a birds eye view angle of them two, then at 0.30 the angle changes to a mid shot of the side of their body where we see the main vocalist laying on top of the guest. This allows the viewers to focus on a different side of the artist and not just looking at his front features.
(close up 0.40, mid shots 0.58, the camera moves in a circular motion). The different camera language in this music video lets the audience know what's happening in each angle whether its the background scene, the person or an object. Its also an interesting type of movement to use and grabs the audience attention more because you are using different angles.
At 1.15 the movement of the camera is panning from the view of the sea to then Trey Songz walking towards the camera.
'Somebody that I used to know' by Gotye, the music video uses a few camera languages ( close up 2.10, mid shot 2.30) most of the video is in the same angle which is just facing the two people that are in the video, I think that there could be other angles that they could've done (shot reverse shot, extreme close up). If there was more camera language used the video would be more creative.
Another improvement that they could make is the location, maybe have the location change throughout the music video so that it gives the viewers more to look at. For example change the image to in an art gallery where people are viewing them as a piece of art, then it kind of ties in with the body paint and different shapes. Then they could've used a long shot of the crowd of people surrounding the art and close ups of their faces for the viewers to see their reactions and body language.
Green screen- Most music videos now are used with green screen to get the best creative video possible.
Green light- by Beyonce, the music video is filmed using the green screen for the entire video but objects/equipment has been brought onto the set to add more of an effect to the music video. The way that the video has been filmed looks effective even though its on a green screen and there isn't much of a background. 0:25 The background is still white, but an object of glass stairs are now on set with the vocalist laying across it, I think this shot in particular is quite strong because this type of artist is big and is showing that she can give off a good performance and video by just using the simplest things, that we never thought of using. 0:31 Graphics have now been used with the green screen, to give more of an effect to the music video so that it doesn't look plain throughout. 2:49 Again another object has been used where the vocalist is dancing around it/on it, she's being creative with her limited objects for the green screen.
This music video is a poor use of the green screen, you can tell that its unrealistic and not much effort/ understanding has gone into making this video. The person just seems to stand out of the background which makes the video seem dull/poor quality. It's definitely not up to professional standards which will be a problem especially when looking for viewers.
Lip syncing- most music artist will lip sync when performing live because if they have to do a dance then they will be to out of breathe to sing the song as well properly to make the whole performance look good and make the audience impressed. Lip syncing is one of the hardest techniques because no matter how hard to try and practise, you will always be out of sync whether its by a second or longer. Most of the time people won't notice and you can get away with it but some artist seem too confident with their performance that sometimes they mess up and go out of sync which then ruins the show.
Mariah Carey is known for her live performances to always be lip-synched, the reason for this is because the same technique in the studio can not be used with a live performance which throws most artist off their game. 1:59 If you listen very closely her voice is mixed with her voice on the tape, you can notice that from the different tones of pitch with the note.
There are different types of categories for music videos to be shown: Social media, Mainstream TV, Downloads (illegal and legal), artist website, direct CD, music channels, streaming websites. Some of these categories are better than others but at least all of them gets an artist known.
Social Media : Facebook, You tube, Myspace
These different social media's allows you to
post and view different music videos that are available. Viewing music videos on social media are
available to everyone and is easy access but only available if you have an
account on the that is providing it. Social media is an
advantage for posting and getting music videos because it's free, most other
sites that provide music will expect a small pay for you to download/take the
song (Itunes) but with social media they don't want any funds for you to take
to music. It's also easy to use to find music videos because it will be posted
on the first page of the site so you won't miss it
Its also an advantage because it's access able
world wide, so you can watch any video that is on the site wherever
you may be located. You also get the latest updates because people will be
always updating their post every minute to every day, so you will always see a
different video on their post line. The quality of the music video that has
been linked onto the social site is actually really good, which is also can be
seen as another advantage.
Facebook allows you to post music videos from
'Youtube' for everyone to watch, you can also share this video to other
contacts even if it's not your video. The disadvantage to watching music videos on
social media is that, you have to have an account for that particularsite. For example, for you to watch this music video
on Facebook, you have to have an account on Facebook otherwise you will not be
sable to access Facebook or watch the video.
Also an disadvantage is that you can only watch
that particular music video that has been posted onto the social media site,
which may not be the genre of music that you are into, and so means that you
wouldn't be interested in watching the video and will have to wait til your
type of genre gets posted. With using the social sites, you will need
Internet access, which not everyone has so that's also an disadvantage because
you won't be able to watch the music videos, also because you will need
Internet to go onto the social sites, you may be unfortunate and get a virus
which then stops you completely from accessing anything.
Downloads: Tubidy, You tube converter.
You can get music videos easily from downloading the link (URL) onto
your device and watch it through that.
Downloading music from these sites are available to anyone and is also
free, there is wide range of genres available to download which then means it
captures everyone’s taste because it has been provided.
Downloading music is one of the easiest ways of getting the song of your
choice right onto your phone or computer and because it is so easy it is also
very common and the number of people downloading has increased. You can also
listen to any song repeatedly if you want to, which can be very beneficial to
some people as they may enjoy a particular song and would prefer to listen to
do it again and again.
The disadvantage of downloading music videos is that it can also be
illegal, especially if you are getting the music from unknown/dodgy sites, this
then can lead you into a huge problem as you can get charge a massive fine and
will be banned access onto sites.
The quality when downloading music videos isn’t always good which can
make you lose interest in watching and downloading the song. Most music video
websites will make the music video quality bad on purpose because they want you
to find another way of downloading (another site) and to decrease the numbers
of downloads happening, expect you to go and buy the song.
With YouTube unfortunately the quality of the music video aren’t always
good and could sometimes skip songs or stop half way through the song, this is
because of the site you have got it from has purposely done this or because you
haven’t downloaded it correctly which is a disadvantage for the consumer. This
is also a disadvantage for the artist because their music is being taken for
free (illegally).
With YouTube its beneficial for the consumer because they get the music
that they want, and they can download as much as they want.
Tubidy is another site that
allows you to download the music video of any song that you require.
The advantage of downloading from
tubidy is that it’s easy to access and the downloading is very quick unlike
most sites, it’s free and available to anyone.
This can also be seen as an
advantage for the artist because their music is available for anyone to listen
to.
The downside for the consumer
with ‘Tubidy’ is that the music that you download doesn’t always download with
the video, only the song will get downloaded this is because Tubidy doesn’t
want people to keep downloading in general. This is also a disadvantage for the
artist because their music is being illegally downloaded for free, so they
don’t get anything from it.
Artist website: Is where you can go onto the music artist website to watch their music videos and also to get more information about them and the videos.
Most people go onto the artist website because it is much more easier/simpler to watch their music videos because you have direct access to the music. The advantage to going onto the artist website to watch their music videos is that you listen to only their music and not other different genres, this is useful because if you only wanted to watch a particular artist music videos then going onto their site would benefit you because all their music and videos will be available to you on their site.
You also get exclusive contents on their site, if you wanted to collect information about the artist then you will go onto their site to get it because it's precisely about the artist and no one else.
Example: Usher is a music artist and he has created a website that gives people information and updates on his past music and on coming music. He gives details about concerts that he is in and if he releasing a new album he puts all the details on the website about the date and time. This method is easier because its all about him and his music, so when you look for his website you know straight away that its about him.
The disadvantage of going onto an artist website to watch music videos is that you will need Internet access, which everyone doesn't have which means you will not be able to access it.
Another disadvantage is that because you will need Internet to access the site, there is always a small risk of getting a virus which then means you defiantly Will not be able to access anything until you remove the virus off the computer. Not every artist that has a website will upload all their music videos which can be seen as an disadvantage because you may want to view all their music including their old music videos and the artist may only post their new music videos.
Direct CD:Cd's/DVDs have been made to put songs onto it and be played to listen to. Now Cd's and DVDs have been made to not only allow you to listen top the music but to also watch their music videos/live concerts'(bonus or delux' track).
An advantage of Cd's/DVDs is that it's available to anyone, there used to be thousands of CD stores world wide but as time went by less and less stores are around because online shopping has taken over, so now not only can you go out and buy a CD you can also go online and buy the CD which can be seen beneficial for most people because they may not have time to go out and buy it but it can also be seen as a disadvantage because not everyone has Internet access. Also an advantage is that on a CD there can be extra features included which could be a upcoming song or a music video/live concert of the artist song, this is useful because they can watch the music video from a CD/.DVD instead of watching it online, so it's also another way of being access able for everyone.
For example: HMV, tesco etc. Places like local shopping stores will sell Cd's of a variety of artist's/genres. The advantage of this is that its available to everyone but the disadvantage is that it might not be in store.
Trey songz who is a music artist released an album called 'Passion, Pain & Pleasure'.
On this album he has included a bonus track and DVD live performances which you can watch video of. Most of his video track will be of the concerts not the official music videos because most of his music videos are being shown main stream and through social media.
A disadvantage of Cd's/DVDs is that it does cost money for you top buy it and it's not always a reasonable price for the amount of songs you get o the play list.
The CD can get lost/broken or even damaged in anyway which is a disadvantage because you won't be able to listen or watch any of the songs which means it will have to be replaced.
Another disadvantage of a CD which most people don't like is that in a CD/DVD you only get that sample of music/genre, which people do not like because that means they will have to spend more money to buy other Cd's to listen to other music.
Music channels: Music channels is where music videos are played continuously all day on different channels matching the same genres. You have access to the music channels on your TV, and you can listen to the different genres of music that are on separate channels (MTV Base, Channel AKA, Magic).
An advantage of music channels is that it shows the latest music videos that are out there in the music industry of mainly major artists.
The music video gets repeated throughout the day on the same genre of channels which is a good thing because it gets the audience attention of a new music video that has been released.
Another advantage is that having their music video on a music channel is a way of more advertisement because their videos are being played repeatedly on music channels for people to listen and watch which then gets the video and them self known.
Beyone released a new single 'Countdown', this music video was played on different music channels (MTV base, Kiss fm, AKA, smash hits) continuously for at least a week.
This got thousands of viewers hooked onto this music video because it was getting played repeatedly so it was getting well known which is an advantage for the artist.
The disadvantage of watching music videos on music channels is you have to pay for the channels for you to be able to watch the videos otherwise you will not be able to watch it.
Another disadvantage is that there's always adverts./commercials in between a changing of songs, which can get very irritating because that means you will have to wait until the music is back on.
Streaming Websites: Is data that is being transferred and you won't have to download anything for you to watch the music videos. (You tube, Veoh, Vimeo)
The advantage of streaming websites is that it is free, which is defiantly a good thing because most people do not want to pay to watch a music video. It's quick and easy access because it is available for everyone to use and you get more of a variety of music on streaming websites.
The disadvantage of streaming website is that it can be illegal for you to stream a music video because you are getting it from a site that hasn't got permission for you to take the music. It's not always free to stream music videos, you will find out sometimes that you will need to pay a small fee for you ton get the music video. Another downfall to streaming music videos is that there are adverts in between songs and the adverts are quite long. Mainstream TV: Is a channel that is for the digital media industry that allows you to watch music videos that isn't an actual music channel.
Most channels now are starting to create programmes that allows you to watch music videos off from a music channel which can be seen as an advantage because it's free, you won't have to pay more for you to buy an music channel to watch music videos, instead you can have the main channels that are available and watch music videos from there from the programme provided.
This is also an advantage because it's available to anyone and it is also easy to access from any television or computer (only if you can get channel onto the computer).
For example: Ages ago there was a channel called 'Top of the pops'
where different genre of music video will be played, so you can go onto that channel and watch your favourite music, this was very useful for people who didn't have Internet access.
The disadvantage of mainstream channels is that you only get a limited amount of channels, which means you don't get a wide variety of genres, you will only get the main ones (RnB, Pop, Rock)
Another disadvantage is that the music is played live, which means that the song will not have good quality as it would do being played from the music videos
Promoting a new music release lets people know the coming of a new album. Usually most artist will create a single that introduces the new album that they have coming out, and on the album will have the song that's the single on the first track. Most major label artist's will also promote their new album by advertisement- social media, through FaceBook or Twitter, where the artist can write a post/tweet about their coming of the album, this then gives the fans an awareness of what's happening. This method of promoting is very common and easy to do to reach out to people. Youtube is also another way of a artist promoting their album, on the videos on Youtube, there is usually an advert which is how some artist choose to promote their music. For example: 'trey songz' done a single called just gotta make it to promote his new album that was being released called 'just gotta make it'.
This music video is Trey Songz first single that he ever did when he joined the music industry, Trey Songz is promoting his new album that was being released a few weeks after he released this single. In this video he is not only promoting the song but he is sending out a message that even though life is hard you just gotta make it through and keep battling on.Which I think could also be a way of promoting his music because of the lyrics that he has created are meaningful and remember able that gets people talking, sharing/spreading the word which leads you wanting to buy his music.
Also when the artist is promoting their new release, through an advert, next to the song or even in the song they will be letting you know the time and date that the new album will be released so that you are ready for it.
Some stages the music video will become more known than the actually song itself, this is either because its catchy or there's something in the video that sticks into your head (Virual Marketing).
Visual Representation of an artist: In the music industry you can go onto the Internet (Youtube, Yahoo, tubidy)and look and listen to a song, whereas before if you wanted to listen to a particular song by a particular artist you would have to go to their concert.
Enhances the artist brand, shows off their personality, clothing/fashion style, most artists choose to wear an item for a period of time to grab the audience attention sob that they focus on the artist and find out exactly why they wear that item. Also it allows the artist to reinvent them self, allows the artist to refresh them self this is because they either want to change the way they act or even the type of genre that they sing (Eninem, Madonna).
Eminem went through different stages in life that he expressed into his music videos. In this music video 'Cleaning out my Closet' he is explaining the situations that have gone wrong for him in his life and how he can't find a way to change (0.47- 0.51).
He decided to take a break from the music industry and get his head straight. Once he decided to make a come back he released this song (not afraid) and its about him making a stand and he isn't afraid anymore (0.02- 0.21) of what he used to be and how he has changed for the better.
Also in this video you get a free vibe: that you can just let go and be yourself (don't hold back) and I think that's really important for an music artist to get a message across to the audience whether it's through words or actions, because it gets them feeling and understand the song properly and they also get an understanding of why the artist chose to release the single. (0.25-0.30) Eminem explains exactly that, that how you won't understand why he is singing this song if you only read the lyrics but if you listen carefully then you'll understand.
To extend the playability of and provide additional income from a song allows the artist to receive more money because their music is being played on a music channel. Having their music videos on a music channels keeps it out much longer which then also gets them extra money, which then goes back into investments for another music/music video.
Allowing their music to be on a music channel also allows them to get more promotions and more fans, on a music channel they will continuously/repeatedly play a particular song for a few days to grab the audience attention of a single/album or even a new artist.
The problem with this method is that not everyone has the same taste of music so which means less people will go onto the music channels, which is a disadvantage for the channel because they are losing viewers.
When Beyonce released her new single 'Single ladies' it was played on every RnB, Hip hop and pop music channels. This is because she wanted for people to see/ and get the awareness of the new single.
The single was played everyday for at least 1 week day and night, which definitely got the number of views increased rapidly because she is also a major artist.
Them having their music video on a music channel lets the audience see who they are and make them get into that type of music because it's either catchy or the style of the video.
For example: The music artist Rhianna released a song called 'Umbrella' this song was on different music channels and was playing constantly for weeks which then got people knowing the music and remember the lyrics and the video.
The lyrics is very easy to remember and the music video is creative and interesting which then made people watch it and listen to the song even more which then increased the views and like and that was spreading globally.
To create 'synergy' with other media sectors is used often in the media industry. Most music artist are starting to do that especially with films. This also gets the artist well known because it increases awareness of their talent and their presence. This also opens a door for the artist to go into a different media industry (films).
The music artist 'Coolio' created a song called 'Gansta Paradise' so that it was featured in the film that was released in 1995 called ' Dangerous Minds'.
The music video gives off different emotions :
Strong
Fearless
Tough
Truth
Different styles:
Urban
Gang
This video also gets you ready to watch the film 'Dangerous minds', its gets you prepared of basically what the film is about (you can get an idea of what the film will be about). This also gets the single well known because it's in a film, so whenever you see this film or hear about the film, you will instantly think of the song 'Gangsta paradise' which is what the artist wants to happen.
To be 'art' in their own right, a music video that is unique/unusual. Some music videos don't relate to the actual lyrics and that's done purposely so that the video stays in your head/memorable.
Sometimes the videos could just be a mime with subtitles on the screen, and we think that the idea is useless but actually its very clever because the video will stick in your head which is what the artist wants it to do.
Goyte released the single 'Somebody that I used to know'. In the music video the lyrics defiantly does not match the video. The lyrics are about this guy expressing his feeling about some girl that he used to like, and how she has changed and he doesn't know who she is anymore. But the video is visualised as a kind of art form, the paint on their body, dark bold straight outlines of the shapes covering their face, just leaving their hair to stand out for the audience to see the creativity of the camouflage.
